I went to the store today to buy an oven and microwave to take advantage of the great sales. As always, I received a very warm welcome from a friendly and pleasant team :) I've been a customer for 10 years and I highly recommend them.

Scammers, plain and simple. My mother was "advised" (read: swindled) by a salesperson at St. Germain and bought a television for over €1,500 about two years ago. Although the price was high, this television was actually an outdated model, released several years prior, which is already a red flag. Ouch. It's a form of fraud, then, bordering on taking advantage of vulnerable elderly people, especially those who are often uninformed about the technology they're buying. Salespeople should be offering them advice with care and consideration, not treating them like cash cows and easy targets. THEN, it turned out that this television was actually a display model or one that had been languishing at the back of their stock for ages, because it was defective from the start (it never worked properly), with green/grey/multicoloured flickers appearing continuously every 1-2 seconds. FINALLY, after my mother had repeatedly "bothered" her internet and TV provider (Proximus), who even went so far as to send a repairman/technician who finally clarified the situation, explaining that the problem actually came from her "brand new" and supposedly high-quality television (given the price), and not from her TV provider. She realized with astonishment that there was a problem beyond a simple technical glitch, and resigned herself to contacting the St. Germain store—get this—only to be told that she had to contact the TV manufacturer's customer service department herself (which is already ludicrous; she bought the TV from St. Germain, so it's their responsibility to handle the return/repair formalities), and include a video of the problem and detailed explanations with her request. We're talking about a woman over 65 who already struggles to use a smartphone; ask her to go to Samsung's headquarters in Korea and hand them a specific technical audit in Korean—it's the same thing. And I see (without being particularly surprised, by the way) that several negative comments are written by children about their older parents, and that it's therefore a common business practice to take advantage of our elders by exploiting their vulnerability to new technologies. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. It took my mother two years to tell me about this absurd situation. Rest assured that I will indeed send an email to the brand and/or their customer service department, but it will reflect my mother's experience. I will also contact Test-Achat (a Belgian consumer organization) to denounce these OUTRAGEOUS business practices for a company that has been established for over 30 years, as the owners apparently like to emphasize. And then we wonder why small and medium-sized businesses and local shops are neglected in favor of large corporations? Furthermore, since Electro St. Germain is clearly run by dishonest people, I didn't advise my mother to go back to them to assert her rights as a customer (European consumer protection law, something basic every retailer should know). If necessary, we'll buy her another television elsewhere. But dealing with crooks who always have some excuse for the problem being outside their premises is a waste of time we can easily do without. Whether you're older or younger, I strongly recommend you shop elsewhere if you don't want to be the victim of a bad joke and lose money needlessly. Any store or customer service department will treat you better than these charlatans. I don't thank you and I don't expect a reply from you; I just hope to prevent a few unlucky people who might bother reading the public comments from falling into your trap. €1,500 is a steep price for a can of sardines.
